IN A turnaround on its previous policy, Mijas town hall is now to allow the feeding of stray cats in the town, but only by people who request official permission to do so.
The town council last week approved the necessary amendments to local bylaws to permit the controlled feeding of the colonies of stray cats, which until now had been prohibited outright.
The revised bylaw “establishes that the feeders or carers must be duly accredited by the town hall, and the feeding will have to be done in areas away from residential hubs so it does not bother local residents,” said the town’s health councillor, Juan Carlos González.
