Fierce competition from rival bidders drove the cost of Málaga province’s best batch of bull tomatoes up to a record high on Tuesday, at Coín’s famous annual tomato auction. Local and provincial officials, and even the State’s economy minister Luis de Guindos (fourth from right), were on hand as the top tomatoes were selected by the contest and purchased by Pepe Cobos, the co-owner of Málaga’s El Pimpi bar and restaurant, for a whopping €2,100.
