The programme of surgery being carried out using the Da Vinci robot since it was brought to Alicante general hospital this year has been gradually increasing.
The first services to make use of the technology were general surgery, urology and gynaecology, in collaboration with anaesthesiology and a specifically set-up team of surgical nurses.
Recently the thoracic (chest) surgery service started using the robot as well, and has successfully carried out about 15 operations.
In total, about 130 surgical procedures have now been performed using the pioneering system, which offers greater precision and better quality of care, according to the regional health department.
