ANDALUCÍA’S regional government last week approved plans to make it obligatory for bars and cafés to supply “a container of fresh water and glasses” free of charge to customers. Even drinks vending machines will have to offer water free of charge in a drive to improve healthy lifestyles and combat obesity.
The Junta de Andalucía says the new legislation will discourage the consumption of sugary soft drinks, as well as fighting dehydration in hot weather. The requirements will mean all schools, public centres and children’s leisure areas will have to offer free access to drinkable water.
