THE announcement of the date for the referendum on the UK’s membership of the European Union has triggered a surge in the number of British expats wanting to register to vote, according to the British Embassy in Madrid.
The latest figures show thousands of UK nationals who live overseas are going online to register to vote and have their say on June 23.
The average daily rate of online registrations by Britons abroad has quadrupled from an average of just over 600 per day before the announcement of the referendum date last weekend, to more than 2,600 per day since then, stated an Embassy spokesman.
“My heart says out, but my head says in” – this expression was used by many Costa expats this week, when Costa Blanca News confronted them with the question that millions of Britons will be faced with in the referendum.
