DEMOLITION work is now underway to make room for a planned expansion of the Plaza Mayor shopping centre in Málaga with the addition of a designer outlet mall.
The teardown of the old nightlife section of the centre is expected to take until mid-June, after which the first phase of the expansion project can move forward once the construction licence is issued by Málaga city hall. Plaza Mayor owner Sonae Sierra and British designer outlet firm McArthurGlen, which have joined up for the project, say they expect the first phase to open during the second half of next year with 107 stores, nearly doubling the centre’s existing 112.
