COUNCILLORS in Vélez-Málaga are considering a proposal to ask the regional government to relax the rules on playing music in beach bars and restaurants in Torre del Mar. The deputy mayor for Torre, Jesús Pérez Atencia, has aligned himself with local businesses and musicians in the municipality, as well as with the collective No Sin Música (Not Without Music), which is campaigning for a change.

According to the collective, the controls against live music have been a major setback for many bars and restaurants, particularly those by the beach. Local police can presently enforce regulations against businesses that stage live music events without having obtained the appropriate municipal licence.
