Hopes that pedestrians and cyclists might continue to be allowed to use the service road along the irrigation channel in Orihuela Costa have been dashed.
The road belongs to the Segura river and water authority (CHS), which recently announced it was going to close it off to the public.
A bid to have maintenance carried out has backfired.
