CASARES town hall is leading a fight to keep Cajamar bank from closing down its local branch, a move that mayor Pepe Carrasco says was announced without sufficient lead-time and poses a major blow to many residents, especially elderly people. Similar battles are underway in two small villages in the Axarquía.
Mayor Carrasco on Monday said the bank branch – one of just two banks in Casares – plays an important role in the community given that many older residents receive their pension payments there.
