THIS is a tough all-day walk – one which takes the protagonist to a point that offers stupendous views over large swathes of the Pyrenees, and across to the awesome snow-capped Maladeta massif, home to Aneto (3,404 metres). The ascent to the Coll d’Amitges is steep in places but with the pass at 2,760m, it is an amazing spot to spend an hour watching cruising vultures and gazing over a vast area of mountains which run away into the distance as far as the eye can see.
