OLIVA’S new-found bull-fighting tradition has not gone down well with certain councillors and many residents – especially those linked to the local animal shelter VEDAMA.
The dogs’ and cats’ home organised a protest march ahead of the bull spectacles reported in last week’s Costa Levante News, but called it off at the last minute.
It would have been backed by large numbers of expats, especially Brits, who regularly support the shelter with fund-raising quizzes and whip-rounds at private parties.
Now, United Left (EU-AC) councillor Àlex Salort has called for Oliva to be declared an ‘animal-friendly town’.
