LAST week’s sudden freezing temperatures have inflicted losses of up to 80% on crops in La Ribera district (Valencia province).
Summer seasonal fruit, and mainly the earliest varieties of peach and nectarine, will suffer drastic reductions in yield as a result.
Several plots have been found to be totally devastated.
Although the freeze was not said to be overtly severe or unseasonal for the month of February, problems arose due to the warm winter weather registered previously – which had left many trees already in full bloom, thus worsening the damage inflicted by the frost.
