CHILDREN in Simat de la Valldigna have no GP at their local surgery until at least September due to the only paediatrician being on holiday.
Parents in the Valencia province village, famous for its 13th-century monastery, will have to take their kids to their nearest large town, Tavernes, if they become ill – in a season when intense heat and mosquitoes mean they are more likely to get sick than at almost any other time of the year.
Mayor Víctor Mansanet says he spoke to the area manager, who told him there are ‘not enough paediatricians to go round’ in July and August due to staff holidays.
She even told Mansanet that ‘if he knew of any’, to let her know and she would give them the job.
Neighbouring Benifairó de la Valldigna may shortly be in the same situation.
