A mother and daughter have gone on trial accused of the murder of the president of Leon’s provincial council in May 2014, Isabel Carrasco. The politician was shot in broad daylight in the city as she walked to work. Also on trial is a police officer who is alleged to have hidden the murder weapon. All three face custodial sentences of over 20 years if found guilty.
