Spain is the world’s third most prolific country in the world when it comes to producing twins. The rate of multiple births in the country runs at 4% of all births, compared with the global average of 1 to 1.5%. The reasons include Spain’s position as European leader in assisted reproduction which includes two or more embryos being transferred, an illegal practice in some countries.
