The final figures for traffic deaths and accidents on Spain’s roads in 2016 were revealed by the director general of the State’s traffic department (DGT) last week. Gregorio Serrano confirmed that there were 102,362 accidents, with a total of 1,810 people killed and 9,755 seriously injured. The amount of deaths was 7% higher last year than 2015, and Spain sits in fifth place across Europe, with 39 road deaths per million habitants.
