The interior minister has promised that the salaries of Guardia Civil and local police officers will be increased “very soon”. Juan Ignacio Zoido’s remarks follow demands by police unions to match their pay with regional forces, such as Cataluña’s Mossos d’Esquadra. An agreement with unions paves the way for €1,207 million in increases over three years.
