The socialist group at Nerja own hall have called for a railway line to be built from Málaga to the municipality. They want it included in future infrastructure plans and intend to write to Congress to start the process. In 2004, the Public Works Ministry announced plans for a rail line from Estepona to Nerja via Málaga, a project which was dropped during the financial crisis.
