The PSOE mayor of Canillas de Aceituno between 1999 and 2011 has been fined €3,240 and barred from holding public office for 20 years. José Manuel Aranda was found guilty of licensing the construction of 15 houses on land not classified for development. Aranda claimed during the court hearing that he had not been advised that the licences were illegal.
