The number of centenarians in the Spanish population has tripled in ten years. Now data from the National Statistics Institute shows there are presently almost 16,000 people who have lived past their 100th birthday, with women outnumbering men in the longevity stakes. Of these, around 1,000 are foreigners, predominantly British and German nationals.
