Raids on pet shops in five regions have uncovered a gang breeding monkeys and other exotic animals for sale illegally at prices of up to €2,000 each. Seven people have been arrested and 25 more are facing charges. Seprona said 20 monkeys, some suffering from physical and psychological problems, were rescued and taken to animal shelters while another five were found dead.
