Tuesday’s gloomy predictions by the acting government have been blamed on a global slowdown. This year’s deficit forecast has been raised from 2.8% to 3.6% of GDP, meaning Spain will miss EU targets for deficit reduction, with 2017’s figure up from 1.4% to 2.9%. Unemployment is also expected to worsen at the end of this year, rising to 19.9% of the active population.
