Flights from Spain to Turkey were suspended at the weekend following the country’s failed army coup. The Foreign Office in Madrid is advising anyone travelling to Turkey to exercise “extreme caution” and to avoid the Kizilay district of Ankara, especially public buildings and areas near police or military sites. Tourists and residents were told to stay indoors.
