The Junta de Andalucía’s environment ministry is investigating the appearance of hundreds of dead birds and fish in the Guadalhorce river. Since August, the number of dead fish has increased, specifically in the El Tarajal zone between the airport and the A-7 at Alhaurín de la Torre, and this has had a knock-on effect on birds, including ducks, in the Mestanza zone that feed on the fish. It is thought untreated waste-water pumped into the river from nearby towns could be to blame.
