Fuengirola’s local council has begun to distribute 2,000 plastic ashtrays along the town’s beaches, as part of an initiative to try and keep the coastline clean. The reusable ashtrays are being handed out by lifeguards and the town’s sun-bed operators. The council estimate that between 400,000 and 500,000 cigarette butts are left on the beaches annually during the summer season.
