Police have opened an investigation after a woman, 64, was found dead on a stretcher in the A&E unit at the San Juan de la Cruz hospital in Úbeda, Jaén, 12 hours after she had arrived in an ambulance. The hospital has also opened an internal enquiry into how she went unnoticed for so long. Health officials said she was called “immediately” after her triage information was reviewed, but didn’t answer and the hospital thought she had left.
