THE SPANISH Family Medicine Society (semFYC) issued a warning last week saying that a third of antibiotics being consumed in the country have not been prescribed by a doctor (despite a prescription being needed to buy them at farmacias) and this incorrect use is contributing to the rise in bacteria that are resistant to these life-saving drugs.
