A SPANISH consumers group says nine out of 10 people have detected fake discounts on goods in the January sales. Facua – Consumers in Action says over 2,000 shoppers contributed to its Twitter poll last Thursday and Friday.
In response to being asked if they had seen false discounts during recent shopping, 88 per cent confirmed that they had spotted discounts which were not genuine, while 25 per cent claimed there were irregularities in almost all the outlets they had visited. Only 12 per cent asserted that they had seen no suspicious discounting during the sales period.
Facua has launched a campaign to turn consumers into “hunters,” seeking out irregularities being committed by some establishments. It recommends that advertisements, catalogues and recent receipts can be used to compare claims of bargains with the true reduction being applied to goods.
