Torrevieja has suffered the driest start to a hydrological year since records began in 1927, according to the local weather association, Proyecto Mastral.
Since October 1, just 31 litres per square metre (l/m2) of rain has been recorded by the pluviometer operated by state weather agency AEMET in the municipality.
