ALICANTE province will play a pivotal role in the 2016 Vuelta – or tour of Spain cycle race.
The finish of the gruelling three-week, 3,277-kilometre competition – which starts in Galicia on August 20 – will be played out over three stages in the province, two of which will be definitive in deciding who will ride into Madrid with the leader’s red jersey on their back.
After a couple of difficult days in the Pyrenees mountains, the riders will enter Valencia region for five of the last six days of racing.
