Villajoyosa town hall will present a joint motion at its next full council meeting to oppose the EU proposal to cut the number of days that trawlers can operate in the Mediterranean by 12 days.
The motion seeks to support the local fishermen’s guild and defend the interests of its fishing fleet.
However, ecologists have pointed out that overfishing has put stocks in the Mediterranean at risk of collapse.
