Clinical trials to determine whether plasma donated by people who have recovered from Covid-19 can help those who are struggling to fight the infection have started in the Valencia region.
The study is being carried out by the hospitals La Fe in Valencia and San Juan de Alicante, and the regional blood transfusion centre.
“It is a race between the virus, which wants to continue replicating and damaging organs, and the patient, who must develop an effective immunity to stop it,” explained the head of infectious diseases at La Fe, Miguel Salavert.
“If the patient cannot win this race, we have to help them.”
