Mr Draper basks in self-righteousness. He criticises Andrea Ledsom’s abhorrent views on gay marriage.  But while it may be enshrined in legislation, ‘gay marriage’ is really an oxymoron. Those who have same-sex attraction deserve all the respect and same legal rights as heterosexual couples. In the UK, this is ensured by Civil Partnerships.

However, marriage is, and always was, a union between a man and a woman. It has been the foundation of society since time immemorial. Its purpose is to provide the best environment for the procreation and upbringing of children. Clearly this is something that same-sex couples cannot fulfil.

In Ancient Greece and Rome, homosexuality was idealised. In Rome, meaningful relationships were often between men, not between a man and his wife. However, marriage was always between a man and a woman.

Mr Draper criticises Ms Ledsom’s reference to the Bible. But this issue transcends religion. In Atheist Russia, China, North Korea, etc marriage is between a man and a woman and ‘same-sex marriages’ are unlikely ever to be accepted in those countries.

So the selfish wishes of a tiny minority of the world’s population have used political correctness to turn historical, rational – even biological reality – into a gross distortion of the real meaning of marriage. You can use legislation to require society to call an apple a sirloin steak, but it will always be an apple.

  1. 1. A tiny minority? At least 1.7% of the worlds population, that’s more than the population of the UK.

    2. I agree marriage is the ideal environment for raising a family. Whether you are straight or gay, this has no impact on how children are raised. A loving stable relationship cemented in law, a law passed by a democratic government, so you and you backward options can not change.

    3. Why did you choose to live in Spain? One of the most tolerant countries in the world for both immigration and LGBT rights. Move back to Africa and one of the backward regimes that you obviously feel more comfortable with.
