An increase in burglaries in Calpe and neighbouring municipalities located in the Marina Alta and Marina Baixa areas was reported in July.
The offenders selected potential elderly victims and phoned them up pretending to be from an electricity company, offering them discounts in their future bills and making an appointment to seal the deal in their homes.
Five suspects have now been arrested.
