Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has said he will ask Parliament on Wednesday to extend the state of emergency for two more weeks until June 21.
He noted that this will be last time that he asks for an extension – and it will be the final period of state of emergency.
Sr Sánchez stated that most of Spain could move into phase three of the exit plan on June 8 – and this phase could last less than two weeks, if regional governments take this decision.
He said that the last stage of the state of emergency was necessary to finish the ‘de-escalation’ process and maintain restrictions on travel around the country.
The PM called on citizens to act sensibly in order to prevent new outbreaks of coronavirus.
