Contagion with the SARS-CoV-2 virus is ‘very unlikely’ from contact with the water during typical recreational activities in the sea or swimming pools, according to the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC).
It indicated that the principal route of transmission on beaches, rivers, pools or lakes are respiratory secretions from coughs, sneezes and person to person contact, so the recommendations for these places are the same as for any other.
