THE BEAUTIFUL pink almond blossom which adorns the Jalón Valley in springtime could soon be a distant memory. Following the detection of new cases of the almond-destroying disease Xylella fastidiosa in Benissa and Pinos, Alicante provincial president César Sánchez visited an affected plot in Alcalalí this week.
The department of agriculture has requested that all plant matter located in an area of 100 metres from affected trees be destroyed on site. Sánchez, however, has expressed his opposition to these measures.
