A long established bar in Vera has launched a petition to continue to hold live music events, claiming it is being unfairly targeted by the council to shut down its gigs.
The Cactus Bar in Las Buganvillas has held live music concerts since it opened 30 years ago, but for the last two years it has received repeated visits from the local police following complaints from an unknown source.
Bar owner René Hoffmans has now received a notice from Vera council threatening proceedings that could result in a fine of between €300 and €30,000 for failing to comply with regional public entertainment laws.
