The restoration of the historic convent in Albox has sparked fears over the building’s safety after opposition parties accused the mayor of “putting lives at risk”.
The Socialist PSOE party complained that the works to the Colegio La Milagrosa, destined to be the new town hall, were being carried out “piecemeal” and “without a comprehensive restoration project”, leading to possible “instability” of the structure.
It added that it was “worried for workers’ safety” and for those that would eventually use the building.
Albox mayor Francisco Torrecillas staunchly denied the claims, however, saying the project was being carried out in compliance with “all legal requirements”.
