A man and woman have drowned in a reservoir in Níjar after entering the unfenced pool to rescue a dog that appeared to be drowning last Saturday, July 22.

The incident happened on private land between greenhouses in San Isidro just off the San José road.

The pair, both Rumanian and in their 30s, could not swim, according to Vasile T., bereaved husband of the woman victim identified as I.T.

He said his wife, an animal lover, was out walking when she saw the dog and called her friend, who was in the area to help. It appears they slipped on the plastic lining of the pool and fell in.
