With tax filing season now underway, inspectors are reported to be targeting property owners who placed advertisements for holiday rentals during 2015.

The crackdown includes those who used websites such as Airbnb as the tax agency seeks to recover income from undeclared income.

The agency, the Agencia Tributaria, says that websites such as Airbnb and Idealista, are not providing them with data of their clients. However, it has not revealed how it has linked individuals to rental advertisements.

It is estimated that almost half of the income from home rental properties in Spain is not declared by their owners.
