Nine people, including the mayor of Sorbas and two British developers, went on trial in Almería city this week accused of committing planning offences.
The case, which has taken nine years to go to trial, centres on the construction of eight bungalows in the Sorbas district of La Mela by Manzana Homes SL.
The local council granted building permits in June 2005, and four house sales were completed before the Junta de Andalucía revoked the licences in March 2007, contending that the homes had been built illegally on rural land.
