New hope has dawned for the future of the derelict Almanzora Palace in Cantoria, after the council announced an agreement with the historic building’s co-owners to facilitate its restoration.
The nineteenth century palace has been in a semi-ruined state for years, despite calls for its repair by residents and pressure groups.
Attempts to initiate its restoration however have failed until now, partly due to lack of funding but also the fact that the building is owned by three separate parties – the council and two private owners.
Now the council has said the other owners have agreed to hand over management of the palace to the council for a period of 50 years provided funding is obtained for a restoration project.
