Four drivers stopped at the weekend at a random roadside check in Mojacar tested positive for drugs in the first such test carried out by the local police in the tourist resort, CA News can reveal.
Although drug-driving tests are normally carried out by the Guardia Civil, Mojacar’s police force is reputedly the first one in the Levante area of Almería to introduce a mobile drug screening system, which detects the presence of illegal drugs in saliva, including cocaine, amphetamines, and THC or tetrahydrocannabinol, one of the main compounds found in cannabis.
The €6,000 German made ‘drugalyser’ unit was used for the first time on Saturday (August 19) to net the drivers.
