Mojacar was at the centre of a terrorist attack this week – but only as part of a made-for-TV Dutch series being filmed at the seaside resort.
Scenes for the 10-part thriller ‘Brussel’ were filmed on Monday and Tuesday at the Mandala beachside club, culminating in a dramatic massacre of tourists that was filmed behind closed doors due to its shocking content.
The makers of the series admit that the scenes echoed the bloody terrorist attack at the Tunisian beachside holiday resort of Sousse in June 2015, when 38 tourists – mostly Britons – were killed by a lone gunman.
Described as a cross between ‘House of Cards’ for its political intrigue and ‘Homeland’ for tackling the spectre of jihadist terrorism, the series also confronts the impact of the refugee crisis in Europe.
