Spain’s supreme court has upheld a two-year prison sentence for a man who was caught in possession of more than 1,000 euros worth of cocaine in Mojacar.
The 53-year-old man and known drug dealer was found guilty of drug trafficking offences in June by the Audiencia Provincial court.
He was arrested by the Guardia Civil in June 2010 at a traffic checkpoint as he was making his way to Mojacar on the night of the San Juan fiesta. Agents found he had stashed almost 18 grammes of cocaine in his trousers in 31 separate wrappers.
The court heard the accused “habitually sold cocaine in Garrucha, Mojacar and Vera”, according to the prosecution, and was driving to the beach resort to “take advantage of the San Juan festivities” to sell the drug.
