A waitress from Villaricos is walking nearly 30 km from Carboneras to Villaricos next month to raise funds for a three-year-old who has survived two aggressive brain tumours.
Mickeila Parsons is helping little Leo, known locally as ‘Leo the Lion’, who has gone through two major brain operations, intensive chemotherapy and fought off septicaemia.
His mother Karen Keefe, from Vera, battled with doctors to have his symptoms taken seriously last year, but they were repeatedly told at the health centre in Vera that Leo’s frequent sickness and lack of mobility was “normal childhood illness”, until the tumour was finally discovered by a doctor at Huércal Overa hospital.
