The regional government is to finance a viability study on the economic merits of constructing a film studio in the province.
Junta culture minister Miguel Ángel Vázquez made the announcement in Almería city last week during a meeting with film board representatives, saying the €60,000 study would be put out to tender before the end of May and its findings published by the autumn.
The report will assess the technical, legal, planning and commercial merits of the venture, according to the Junta. Sr Vázquez stressed that “private capital” would be needed to bring the plans to fruition but hoped that “Almería’s history, tradition and good name in the world of cinema” would make film companies and producers want to invest in the project.
