The regional government will fine the organisers of an illegal cock fight in Viator between €2,000 and €30,000 apiece.
More than 120 people were found in a warehouse in Viator last January, along with seven children, cheering on an illegal fight between cockerels.
The fight was organised by members of a legal cockerel breeding association, although many of the participants were not members of the club. The Guardia Civil’s environmental wing Seprona had been monitoring the club for some time, and swooped when it heard about the “massive fight” being organised.
More than 30 animals were seized by officers, and 11 had to be put down on the spot by a police vet due to their injuries.
