A planned extension to Garrucha promenade can go-ahead following an eight-year struggle by the council to obtain the necessary land from private owners.
The project to extend the seaside pavement from the Castillo up to the boundary between Garrucha and Mojacar was approved by the coastal authority in 2005, but agreement could not be reached with the owners of a parcel of land required for the new construction.
Now the council has negotiated terms enabling it to go ahead with the project. The new promenade will cover some 500 metres of land along the sea front, and will include leisure areas, an open air entertainment space and a new fountain.
